How to Clean Your Oven (And Why You Don't Have To)

You spend the day cooking a beautiful meal. Your family is fed and everyone
is happy. You walk into the kitchen and see the mess that’s left
after your food was cooked. Whether you have a gas stove or an electric
one, stains and dirt are bound to find them. To help you find the best
way to clean your stovetop, we have compiled some easy to follow tips.
Electric Stovetop
Before you start cleaning your electric stove, make sure that it is turned
off. Because it does not run on gas, it can be difficult to tell if it’s
on, thus posing burn hazards. One you have ensured the stove is off you
can begin. Take a sponge or rag and dip into soap water. If you have cleaning
products, you can substitute it with the soap water. Use the sponge to
scrub away the dirt. Once everything is clean, use a dry rag to wipe away
excess moisture.
Gas Stovetop
Gas stovetops are little more complicated to clean because of the different
parts. As with the electric stove, make sure everything is off. You should
then remove the grates covering the burners. Place the grates into soap
water and let them soak while you clean the rest of the stove.
Using a towel or rag, wipe away any loose crumbs or debris that have gathered
on the stove. Then spray your stovetop with your favorite cleaning product
or a 1:1 water and vinegar mixture. Let it sit for a few minutes before
taking a sponge to wipe away the mess and stains. If it has been a while
since you’ve cleaned your stove, you may need a toothbrush or bristled
cleaner to scrub away the grime. Don’t forget the knobs!
Remove the burner caps and wipe those down and put them back. Take the
grates that have been soaking and scrub them down with a sponge or toothbrush.
Once that is done, you can replace them on the stove. You should now have
a clean stove.
